On Saturday, May 8 at 10:00 AM SCHR sponsored a walking tour of Anchor-Diamond Park (Middeline Road at Rt 50) by Rick Reynolds, Ballston Town Historian. Thirty people attended the event. To see pictures go to SCHR meetings/photos on this website.

On Saturday, June 26 at 10:00 AM SCHR will sponsor a walking tour of Clute’s Dry Dock on the Erie Canal by John Scherer, Clifton Park Town Historian. The group will meet at the Historic Whipple Truss Bridge at the main entrance to the Vischer’s Ferry Nature and Historic Preserve.  Pre-registration required. On Wednesday, August 18 at 6:00PM “A Gangster’s Paradise” at Saratoga County History Center The Saratoga County History Roundtable will host a welcome back night at the Saratoga County History Center at Brookside Museum, 6 Charlton Street, Ballston Spa, on Wednesday, August 18. The program begins at 6:00 PM with a tour of the four new exhibits in the museum. Docents will be available to share information on the exhibits and the History Center. Enjoy the new gardens and refreshments on the lawn.

At 7:15 join author and retired police chief Greg Veitch as he tells the stories of Saratoga Springs nefarious past.  From bootlegging and gambling to corruption and murder, Greg tells the true story of how the likes of Arnold Rothstein, Meyer Lasky and Lucky Luciano turned the Spa City into a Gangster’s Paradise. Greg will also be available to sign his two books on Saratoga’s colorful past. This hybrid program with be held in the Museum’s Long Room and can be viewed on Facebook Live. On Wednesday, September 10 at 10 AM (This tour has been postponed until 2022) SCHR will sponsor a walking tour of Congress Park and the Saratoga Springs History Museum by Charlie Kuenzel, President of SSHM. On Thursday, September 16 at 7:00 PM SCHR will present a talk on “A Wife Murder Plot” from Waterford 150 years ago, by Waterford Town Historian Russ Vandervoort. This program will be held in the Long Room at Brookside Museum, 6 Charlton Street, Ballston Spa, and will be streamed on Facebook Live.

On Friday, October 1 Waterford Town Historian Russ Vandervoort will lead a tour of the Champlain Canal in Waterford. We will walk in the mule prints and footprints of the mules and hoagies and learn about the canallers lifestyle. Co-sponsored by SCHR and the Waterford Canal and Towpath Society. Details to follow.

On Saturday, October 23 from 2:00-5:00 PM (tentative date) The Saratoga County Historical Society at Brookside Museum will hold a book launch event celebrating the release of its newly published book “Saratoga County Stories”, a compilation of articles published weekly by the Saratoga County History Roundtable. More information to follow.

On Monday, November 15 at 7:00 PM SCHR will present a program on “Collecting Political Americana.” Bill McPherson will introduce the hobby of collecting political memorabilia. The vast array of objects collected will be explored and the presentation will feature items from his own collection, including items of local interest. This program will be held in the Long Room at Brookside Museum, 6 Charlton Street, Ballston Spa.
